Trans-disciplinary Research on Mobility Behaviour. Assessing the Potential of a Multi-modal Traveller Information System in the Vienna Region
The project “ITSworks” chose a transdisciplinary approach of technology assessment to evaluate a multi-modal traveller information system for the Vienna region. Involving representatives from various disciplinary fields and professional backgrounds the potential of such services to foster sustainable mobility was examined by combining a diverse range of theories and methods generating an integrated transdisciplinary research model. Framed by a Delphi study about the future of traveller information systems, the project comprised a “test-setting”, semiotic analysis, focus groups and scenario techniques. This paper traces this complex research process by highlighting its potentials and challenges for the field of mobility research.
