This paper addresses the role of highway transportation and its contribution to greenhouse gases. It outlines cleaner fuel options and discusses pavement construction and maintenance impacts on the environment. In addition, it considers carbon tax to encourage industry and governmental associations to promote green technology and low-carbon footprint products.
