Bumpy Roads Ahead: America’s Roughest Rides and Strategies to Make our Roads Smoother
This report investigates the condition of the roads and pavements in America's major urban areas. It examines recent developments in road construction and repair that would enable the roads to have a longer service life. It looks at recent travel trends in the urban areas with the highest populations. It also explores the levels of financing necessary to focus on and address America's urban highways that may currently be in a state of deterioration. The report offers recommendations for accomplishing smoother roads. The recommendations include an aggressive plan of pothole repair, use of longer lasting paving materials, financing a pavement preservation program that would rehabilitate roads before they are too deteriorated, and more timely resurfacing of roads.
