Disaster Resilience in America: Steps Forward
A 2012 National Research Council report, Disaster Resilience: A National Imperative, outlines ways in which increased resilience can help to reduce the risks of—and vulnerability to—disasters before they occur, to decrease disaster costs, and to mitigate the consequences. This article summarizes the report. Four key actions are presented that can help the United States to increase resilience to hazards and disasters.
