Concrete bridges at FAST that last

This article discusses factors that can reduce track maintenance demand on concrete bridges, as determined through tests at the Transportation Technology Center, Inc (TTCI)'s Facility for Accelerated Service Testing (FAST). The factors described are: the avoidance of rail joints on bridges; using cushioning between the rail and the concrete bridge deck to reduce impact loads; providing adequate ballast depth between ties and bridge; and renewing or regularly cleaning ballast.
