Ships Monitoring System
Due to increasing piracy attacks all over the world, maritime transport is now facing increased risk and security problems. To prevent and minimize the impact of piracy, owners and maritime administration must take preventive actions/measures. One of these actions is the implementation at a global level of the Long Range Identification and Tracking system (LRIT). The system, mandatory under Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS) Chapter V, Regulation 19-1, has now been operational for one year and has proved to be a useful security tool against piracy.
