STABILITY OF SLOPES IN LODGEMENT TILL WITHIN THE GLASGOW DISTRICT

THE ARTICLE DESCRIBES THE FEATURES OF THE GLACIAL TILL FOUND SOUTH OF GLASGOW ON WHICH EXCAVATION IS IN PROGRESS TO BUILD ROADS AND COMMERICAL DEVELOPMENTS. THE PROBLEM IS THAT OF THE ECONOMICAL LONG-TERM STABILIZATION OF THE SLOPING HILLSIDES FORMED BY GLACIATION. THE ARTICLE PRESENTS A CASE HISTORY OF A SLOPE FAILURE, TOGETHER WITH THE RESULTS OF A LIMITED RESEARCH PROGRAMME INTO THE STRENGTH PROPERTIES OF THE GLACIAL LODGEMENT TILL, COVERING ANALYSIS OF A SLOPE FAILURE, TYPICAL PROPERTIES OF A LODGEMENT TILL, GROUNDWATER MEASUREMENTS AND EFFECTS OF VARIATIONS IN STABILITY. /TRRL/
