Delivering directions 2031 and beyond: development of a directions spatial plan for urban consolidation and alignment with strategic transport planning for Perth
The Perth Metropolitan Area is experiencing significant growth, with the population expected to reach 2.7 million people by 2031 and further planning underway for a longer-term city of 3.5 million. The State Government has recently released its key plans for accommodating future growth, and how these plans translate to on the ground assets is the key to managing the growth of the city and its transport task. The work of planning and transport agencies to align their plans is critical for the implementation of Directions 2031 and Beyond and the draft 20 Year Public Transport Plan. The Western Australian Planning Commission is preparing a draft Directions Plan for Urban Consolidation in Metropolitan Perth and Peel which will incorporate the Moving People Plan. This paper explores the work being undertaken by the Department of Planning and the transport Portfolio (MRWA, PTA and DoT) to align and integrate Government land use and transport planning for the future.
