LIQUEFYING PROCESS OF SATURATED SAND SUBJECTED TO DYNAMIC LOADING

EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES OF THE LIQUEFACTION PROCESS OF SATURATED SAND WERE CARRIED OUT BY MEANS OF A CYLIC LOADING TRIAXIAL TEST APPARATUS. AS THE RESULTS, (1) THE VARIATION OF DILATANCY WITH THE NUMBER OF LOADING CYCLES, (2) THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CHANGE IN PORE WATER PRESSURE AND EXTREME PRINCIPAL STRESS DIFFERENCE AT THE INSTANT OF INITIAL LIQUEFACTION, AND (3) THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN APPLIED STRESS CONDITIONS AND THE NUMBER OF CYCLES REQUIRED TO INDUCE INITIAL LIQUEFACTION HAVE BEEN CLARIFIED, THE RELATIONSHIPS IN (2) AND (3) ARE INDEPENDENT OF CONFINING PRESSURE AND INITIAL RELATIVE DENSITY OF THE SOIL. /AUTHOR/
