MEASUREMENT OF SOIL DAMPING CHARACTERISTICS USING CYCLIC LOADING TRIAXIAL EQUIPMENT

THE OBSERVATION OF DAMPING FORMS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF INVESTIGATIONS OF STRESS-STRAIN RELATIONSHIPS FOR SOILS FOR BOTH STATIC AND DYNAMIC LOADING. IN THIS PAPER SOME THEORETICAL REQUIREMENTS OF DAMPING MEASUREMENTS ARE DISCUSSED. SPECIAL APPARATUS AND EXPERIMENTAL METHODS DEVELOPED TO MEET THESE REQUIREMENTS ARE BRIEFLY DESCRIBED. AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF SOME ASPECTS OF THE STRESS-STRAIN-DAMPING RESPONSE OF A COMPACTED SAND-CLAY TO LOW FREQUENCY, CYCLIC TRIAXIAL LOADING IS THEN REPORTED. /AUTHOR/
