THE STRENGTH OF CLAY SOILS DEPENDENT ON TIME FACTOR

THE REPORT CITES SOME BASIC STANDARD PROPERTIES OF CREEP IN CLAY SOILS AND ILLUSTRATES THE INFLUENCE OF THE DURATION OF TESTS AND MEAN NORMAL STRESS ON THEIR STRENGTH. THE TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT IN COMBINED STRESS CONDITIONS-WITH TRIAXIAL COMPRESSION AND TORSION UNDER HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE WHILE PRESERVING THE HOMOGENEOUS STRESS-STRAIN STATE OF THE SOIL SAMPLE DURING THE WHOLE TESTS PROCESS. THIS WAS ACHIEVED BY TESTING THE SAMPLES DEVELOPED TO THE STATE OF PRACTICALLY COMPLETE STABILITY OF VOLUME STRAINS OR TO THE DISAPPEARANCE OF SURPLUS PRESSURE IN PORE WATER, AND WITH THE APPLICATION THROUGH SIMULTANEOUS LOWERING OF HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE. /TRRL/
