CERTAIN PROBLEMS IN CONSOLIDATION OF CLAYEY SOILS BY VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL DRAINAGE UNDER CONDITIONS OF EQUAL DEFORMATIONS

THIS PAPER DEALS WITH THE THEORETICAL SOLUTIONS TO AN AXIALLY SYMMETRIC, THREE-DIMENSIONAL CONSOLIDATION PROBLEM FOR PREDICTING THE PORE PRESSURE AND THE DEGREE OF CONSOLIDATION OF SATURATED CLAYEY SOILS UPON THEIR CONSOLIDATION BY BOTH VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL DRAINAGE UNDER THE ACTION OF THE WEIGHT OF THE STRUCTURE, AND UNDER CONDITIONS OF EQUAL DEFORMATIONS. THE SOLUTIONS, OBTAINED IN THE CLOSED FORM AND TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE SKELETON CREEP AND THE COMPRESSIBILITY OF THE PORE FLUID, DESCRIBE THE PROCESS OF CONSOLIDATION OF A SOIL MASS IN THE FORM OF A CYLINDER OF FINITE HEIGHT AND HAVING BOUNDARY CONDITIONS COMPLYING WITH THOSE OF VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL (INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL) DRAINAGE. /AUTHOR/
