RADIAL CONSOLIDATION OF CLAYS BY VERTICAL SAND DRAINS

THIS PAPER PRESENTS A GENERAL THEORY IN TERMS OF VOID RATIO FOR THE VERTICAL CONSOLIDATION OF CLAYS DUE TO RADIAL FLOW INTO A SAND DRAIN. THE THEORY IS SOLVED FOR TWO PARTICULAR CASES BY ASSUMING (A) A CONSTANT COEFFICIENT OF CONSOLIDATION AND A LINEAR RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE VOID RATIO AND THE LOGARITHM OF EFFECTIVE PRESSURE, AND (B) A LINEAR VARIATION OF THE COEFFICIENT OF CONSOLIDATION WITH THE VOID RATIO DURING CONSOLIDATION. A METHOD FOR ESTIMATING THE COEFFICIENT OF CONSOLIDATION FOR THE CONDITION OF CONSTANT IS SUGGESTED. /AUTHOR/
