PROPERTIES OF THE KARMAN VORTEX STREET
This report is concerned with research work carried out in the Sulzer Vibration and Acoustics Laboratory on Karman vortex streets formed behind stationary single circular cylinders and in tube bundle heat exchangers. The geometry and the lift coefficient are derived for the single circular cylinder, and a universal wake number introduced. The theoretical results agree well with the measured values quoted by a great number of authors. In addition, the experimentally obtained values of Strouhal number, lift coefficient and damping coefficient in the tube bundles are shown and the wide scatter of the measurement values quoted by different authors with regard to the Strouhal number for the single tube rows are discussed.
