Multibody modelling of a TB31 and a TB32 crash test with vertical portable concrete barriers: Model verification and sensitivity analysis
This study modeled crash tests for Normal Containment barriers using the multibody simulation software package MADYMO, which analyzes and optimizes occupant safety design. Verification was carried out by simulating a crash test performed on vertical portable concrete barriers and by comparing numerical results with those obtained experimentally. The same modeling approach was used on both tests to evaluate the predictive capacity at two different impact speeds. The capacity to predict acceleration severity index, theoretical head impact velocity, barrier working width, and vehicle exit box were all assessed. This is the first multibody model of portable concrete barriers that can reproduce all test criteria, and is therefore helpful for product development and injury research.
