Safe Navigation for Hazardous Goods Transport: Results from the Project SafeNav
Heavy accidents and incidents with hazardous goods transports in Europe (AKTIVNEWS.DE, CHIEMGAU24.DE, SALZBURG24.AT; 03.11.2011) have motivated us to become active in the area of safer and secure hazardous goods transport. The project SafeNav aim is to develop an on-board-unit, which will serve as a standard system for real-time services in the area of transport logistics. Different innovative technologies improved the location accuracy and reliability of GNSS signals. The outcomes of two demonstrations in the border region of Bavaria/Austria and in the city of Nuremberg will be presented. End users from search and rescue organizations as well as transport logistics providers have been widely included in the process form the project’s requirements definition towards the implementation of the results, including standardizations.
