An example of integrated and detailed modelling: Station Pier transport and passenger modelling: Melbourne
Station Pier is Victoria's premier sea passenger terminal, accommodating visiting cruise ships, navy ships and tall ships. The pier is the mainland terminal for the Spirit of Tasmania, providing daily passenger, vehicle and freight service linking Melbourne to and from Devonport, Tasmania. The pier attracts over 500,000 local, interstate and overseas visitors per annum, with each cruise ship visit contributing an average of $1 million to Victoria’s economy. As a consequence of this the Station Pier Precinct attracts significant political and commercial attention and interest. The case study presented here describes the broad range of survey methods and software tools integrated by AECOM on behalf of Port of Melbourne Corporation in order to identify robust and optimised network solutions for the planned sustainable expansion of the Station Pier Precinct.
