Traffic facilities and impacts on property values
How Councils manage the streetscape, including traffic calming devices, has a role in determining property values. The location, impact and visual attractiveness of traffic facilities determines effectiveness and streetscape amenity. The role of maintenance and extension to incorporate water sensitive urban design (WSUD) features also impact heavily on streetscape. Minimising loss of parking spaces and reducing noise need to be taken into account when traffic calming facilities are installed. This paper explores whether well designed traffic calming facilities could add to property value. The results of case studies undertaken in the Fairfield Local Government Area are expected to help practitioners whilst undertaking community consultation in relation to proposals for implementing traffic devices to enhance road safety or amenity and in their planning and implementation.
