Ohio Department of Transportation Peer Exchange Report, September 18-21, 2011
On September 18-21, 2011, Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) hosted its fourth research peer exchange. The objective of this peer exchange was consideration of a program to involve Ohio's local agencies in transportation research. Representatives from Iowa and Minnesota were invited specifically because their states have a long history of experience engaging locals in transportation research. Participants discussed the challenges, strengths, and opportunities of this type of program. The prospective program, ODOT's Research Initiative for Locals (ORIL), will be designed to solicit research problems from Ohio's local roadway agencies, contract with transportation research professionals to investigate the problems, and provide implementable solutions that may be deployed on a local or national level.
