Implementation of systematic approach to flag state selection

Primjena sustavnog pristupa pri izboru zastave broda

On the basis of the systematic approach, this paper deals with the issue of the nationality of ship (flag) under European Union (EU) conditions of employment. Looking from numerous, particularly commercial, aspects, in the actual shipping practice, the choice of the flag is one of the key questions for the shipowners. There are very different reasons motivating the shipowners to decide under which flag the vessel should be registered. Most of the motives are connected with the respective benefits secured by a flag for both the shipowners/operators and the vessels hoisting the flag, having the direct effects on reduction of fiscal and / or social costs. In solving such vital issue for Brodospas, the scientific methods have been applied as to achieve their business goals by securing the respective EU state flag for their ship(s) and at the same time to protect their other complex commercial interests.
