Norwegian road safety initiatives

Initiatives Norvegiennes en matiere de securite routiere

While it is difficult to assign an exact date to the time when organized road safety work began in Norway, in 1968 the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA) began to receive information from the police about all accidents resulting in personal injury. Exact geographical information was obtained for all accidents on the public road network as soon as it was possible. Accident clusters were identified and studied, and correctional measures were adopted. It is believed that, through this, the reduction of fatal accidents from 1970 onwards was instigated.
