STABILITY OF SLOPES IN JOINTED ROCKS

THIS PAPER CONSIDERS THREE MODES OF FAILURE WHICH OCCUR IN ROCK SLPES: ROCK SLIDES ON A SINGLE PLANE WHICH TAKE PLACE WHEN THE INCLINATION OF THE PLANE EXCEEDS ITS FRICTION ANGLE; TOPPLING OF BLOCKS WHEN THE RATIO OF THEIR BASE TO THEIR HEIGHT IS LESS THAN THE TANGENT OF THE INCLINATION OF THE BASE PLANE; AND SLIDING OF WEDGES OF ROCK.
