500 elevation
A growing rank of communities and transportation agencies are incorporating complete-streets policies, and the city of Memphis, Tennessee was the 500th city to join them. While still a relatively new term with just under a decade of use, "complete streets" are defined here as streets that are planned, funded, designed, operated and maintained to provide safe, accessible accommodations for all modes of transportation - walking, bicycling, driving, taking public transportation - and for all people, regardless of age, ability, income, race or ethnicity. Complete streets, when applied across a community, provide access to all and are not dominated by any one mode of transportation. The ways in which Memphis has adopted this policy are presented here.
