Freight Policy Transportation Institute, Part III
The project provides additional funding to the existing grant with Washington State University for the Freight Policy Transportation Institute (FPTI), to undertake research on a variety of topics and issues that will improve the understanding of the importance of efficient and effective freight transportation, to both the national economy and to regions, states, and international trade. Research topics will also include the need for improved intermodal freight transportation and policies and actions that can increase the effectiveness of intermodal transportation in lowering the operating costs, increasing the safety, and lowering environmental impacts, of freight nationwide. The benefits of improved freight transportation performance to specific industries and sectors of the economy will also be important objectives of this project.
