INTERPRETATION OF PILE TESTS UNDER LATERAL LOAD AT LACORUNA 3RD OIL PIER

TO SOLVE THE PROBLEMS ARISING DURING THE DESIGN OF AN OIL PIER OF 120.000 TPM, THREE BENDING TESTS WERE CONDUCTED ON PILE - 54" DIAMETER 30 AND 40M LONG. THE TESTING WAS CARRIED OUT ON THE EXTREME AND MIDDLE POINTS OF THE PIER. TEST AND DATA INTERPRETATION ARE DESCRIBED: (A) BY ELASTIC METHODS ON THE INTEGRATION OF MINDLIN'S EQUATION FOR A PILE GROUP, (B) BY PLASTIC METHODS AS AN EXTENSION OF BLUM;S METHOD. ALTERNATING LOADS WERE APPLIED DURING THE TESTING. THIS CAN BE CONSIDERED DURING THE CALCULATIONS AS AN INCREMENT IN THE FREE LENGTH OF THE PILE. BOTH WAYS LEAD TO SIMILAR SAFETY FACTORS AND ALLOW AN APPROPRIATE ANALYSIS OF DESIGN NEEDS. SEE ALSO IRRD ABSTRACT NO. 100334.
