The Law is Mightier than the Sword: Partnerships form the foundation for maritime authority, response, and enforcement
Over 50,000 merchant ships occupy the waterways, worldwide, at any given moment. They contain and carry 90% of all the freight traffic among over 150 maritime countries. It is crucial that laws and legal procedures are in existence to remediate any possible instability between trading partners, to minimize global supply chain disruption. For the past few years, U.S. Coast Guard attorneys have created partnerships with government attorneys in developing nations that had weak or nonexistent maritime laws. The partnerships have produced new maritime laws to help host countries comply with international treaties, and confirm enforcement regulations and response.
