Application of simulation to obtain solutions to a traffic roundabout in the city of Manaus, Brazil

Aplicação de simulação para obtenção de soluções ao tráfego em rotatória da cidade de Manaus

This paper presents the development and simulation of a computer simulation model to evaluate the proposed solutions in urban traffic in a roundabout in the city of Manaus. Using a simulation software to represent the movement of vehicles circulating in the roundabout, the work enabled the authors to diagnose the traffic operation, identifying critical points responsible for the formation of queues on access roads. It was possible to evaluate and prepare proposals for elimination or reduction of high congestion in the area without the need for local implementation of major intervention. The scenario simulated showed that compliance with existing signs and markings absent the inclusion of the traffic in the area and the removal of traffic lights located in the process of leaving the roundabout, among others, relieve congestion in the area in peak hours when compared to the scenario that represents the current situation.
