Behavioural Adaptation and Road Safety: Theory, Evidence and Action

This book focuses on driver psychology and behavior and behavioral adaptation in relation to road safety. Theories and models are explored in chapters by a variety of authors. The first section includes a definition of behavioral adaptation and early theories. The second section looks at behavioral adaptations to engineering countermeasures, intelligent transport systems, and road safety policy. The third section focuses on the human element, such as, driver distraction, older drivers, novice drivers, and commercial vehicle operators. The fourth section includes methodology and measurement, design, cost-benefit analyses, and the possibility of preventing negative effects of behavioral changes.
