A STRUCTURAL INTERPRETATION OF THE GARLOCK FAULT ZONE AT THE TEHACHAPI CROSSING

THE GEOLOGIC DATA, FOR THE LINE OF THE CALIFORNIA AQUEDUCT SYSTEM WHICH CROSSES THE GARLOCK FAULT IN THE TEHACHAPI MOUNTAINS, BECAME AVAILABLE AT BID TIME (1966-1967) FOR TUNNELS 1, 2, AND 3. SOME OF THE ITEMS LISTED WITHIN THE BID DOCUMENT WERE: A SURFACE GEOLOGIC PLAN MAP (ONE SECTION SHOWS DRILL HOLES), A 350 FT. TEST ADIT, AN OPEN CUT FOR ONE PORTAL, A PORTION OF ONE TUNNEL WAS COMPLETED, AND AN ACCESS ROAD CONNECTED ALL PORTALS OF SEVERAL TUNNELS. GEOLOGICAL STUDIES AND TUNNEL EXCAVATION WORK COMPLETED BEFORE THE BID TIME FAILED TO INDICATE A MAJOR FAULT ZONE ACROSS THE CENTRAL TUNNEL AREA.
