SOIL RESISTANCE PARAMETERS FOR WAVE EQUATION ANALYSIS

A SMALL INSTRUMENTED PILE IS USED TO MEASURE DYNAMIC AND STATIC SKIN FRICTION AND POINT LOADS SIMULTANEOUSLY IN A VARIETY OF FIELD SOILS. THE PAPER RELAYS RESULTS OF THIS FIELD TEST AND ALSO EXAMINES A MATHEMATICAL MODEL IN CURRENT USE WHICH DESCRIBES THE ACTION OF THE PILE-SOIL SYSTEM DURING DYNAMIC OR STATIC LOADING. A MODIFICATION OF THE MATHEMATICAL MODEL IS MADE IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE A CONSTANT DAMPING PARAMETER FOR SKIN FRICTION IN CLAYS. PILE BEARING CAPACITY IS PREDICTED, USING LOAD TEST DATA FROM A FULL- SCALE PILE, AS A BASIS FOR COMPARING THE MODIFIED MATHEMATICAL MODEL WITH THE ONE CURRENTLY USED.
