Airport Design History and Evolution: Towards an Environmental Approach
The article focuses on how airport design has evolved and responded to contemporary environmental issues through relevant policy processes. There are several aspects which could and should be re-evaluated, such as environmental degradation, health issues, users groups' expectations, commercial exploitation, and aviation and building regulations. Reasons why re-evaluation should take place, and limitations and further research needs are investigated. Finally, the article present conclusions regarding important facts that future airport development should acknowledge in providing both a more comfortable environment for all its users, and a building with a much smaller environmental impact.
