Transport Management Procedures as Elements of Traffic Telematics - Based on the Example of Approvals Issued for "Works on the Road or by the Roadside" by the City of Vienna
The procedures implemented by transport authorities result in approved events which provide essential data input for vehicle telematics. This data is indispensable when anyone is tasked with drawing up a traffic situation survey for traffic management. Therefore, the procedures need to provide digital data which can be electronically processed in a prompt manner. Since transport administration resources are limited, the complex process of data processing must not induce additional personnel requirements. At the same time, the structured, spatial-temporal, topologically referenced data capture also offers new opportunities of integrated traffic management. These advancements provide the cornerstone for any further development toward impact-based traffic management, which itself is a prerequisite for any sustainable transport policy.
