Airport Parking Takes Off

This article profiles the parking garage at the Vancouver International Airport in British Columbia. Several wayfinding challenges faced by the airport are highlighted, including the challenge to clearly communicate messages to patrons who speak a variety of languages and the challenge for parkers to remember where they parked their cars upon returning from their trips. The author describes ways those challenges have been addressed, including the addition of new signage to assist those searching for their cars and the use of pictograms and symbols to overcome cross-language barriers. Also described is the garage's use of color to reduce anxiety and enhance the overall garage environment, the display of photo murals to improve the garage's appearance, and the introduction of a Business Class parking program that allows patrons to reserve premium parking stalls in advance.
