Learning Infotainment Component for an Improved Eco-routing and Eco-driving Performance

This paper presents the design and test results of a new infotainment component. The component is able to learn some vehicle characteristics using the CAN (Controller Area Network) data stream and GPS (Global Positioning System) information without any default configuration. Currently, this data has to be hard coded, presuming the vehicle characteristics are known and not evolving over the time. These characteristics are then used to estimate the fuel consumption on given routes, to render fuel consumption curves, or to produce engine efficiency maps, providing the basis for an enhanced Eco-routing and Eco-driving performance.
