STRENGTH CHARACTERISTICS OF ROCK FOUNDATION AND CONCRETE-ROCK CONTACT

DISCUSSED ARE SPECIAL FEATURES OF FIELD TESTS FOR DETERMINING THE STRENGTH OF ROCK MASSES AND CONCRETE PLATES BY THE METHOD OF SHEARING. ESTABLISHED ARE SIGNS OF THE STATE OF FAILURE WHICH ARE TO BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT FOR DEFINING STRENGTH PROPERTIES. THE INFLUENCE OF THE INITIAL STRESS STATE OF ROCK MASSES ON THE ESTIMATION OF FIELD TEST RESULTS IS EXAMINED. INTERRELATIONS BETWEEN SHEAR RESISTANCE PARAMETERS AND ROCK STRENGTH IN DIRECTIONS OF PRINCIPAL STRESSES ARE ESTABLISHED. PRESENTED ARE THE RESULTS OF ANALYSIS OF FIELD TEST DATA OBTAINED FOR ROCK FOUNDATION STRENGTH OF DAMS: KRASNOYARSKAYA, SAYANO-SHUSHENSKAYA, AND ZEYSKAYA (USSR). THESE RESULTS INDICATE THE POSSIBILITY OF OBTAINING MORE RELIABLE STRENGTH CHARACTERISTICS OF ROCK MASSES AT THEIR CONTACT WITH CONCRETE STRUCTURES. /AUTHOR/
