DETERMINATION OF SHEAR THROUGHOUT THE ROCK AND SLIDE ALONG JOINTS

THE TEST EQUIPMENT AND METHODS USED BY THE LNEC FOR DETERMINING SHEAR THROUGHOUT THE ROCK AND SLIDING ALONG JOINTS IN PRISMATIC SPECIMENS ABOUT 14 X 18 CU CM ARE DESCRIBED. THE INFLUENCE OF THE OBLIQUITY OF FAILURE OR SLIDING SURFACES ON THE COHESION AND ANGLE OF FRICTION VALUES IS THEORETICALLY STUDIED AND SOME PARTICULAR CASES ARE ANALYZED. ACCORDING TO THE TESTS CARRIED OUT, THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS IS GOOD. /RRL/
