A ROCK CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM APPLIED IN CIVIL ENGINEERING. PART I

PROBLEMS OF ROCK TESTING AND CLASSIFICATION ARE DISCUSSED AND EXISTING TECHNIQUES REVIEWED. TESTS ARE DESCRIBED FOR MEASURING BROKENESS, HARDNESS AND DURABILITY, TOGETHER WITH A METHOD FOR COMPUTING ROCK QUALITY FROM THE TESTS RESULTS. APPLICATION OF THE CLASSIFICATION AT FIVE SITES INVOLVING ROCK ENGINEERING IS DISCUSSED AND SUBSEQUENT DEVELOPMENTS TESTING ARE OUTLINED. /TRRL/
