STABILITY OF EARTHWORK SLOPES /IN FRENCH/

AFTER RECALLING THE CAUSES OF LANDSLIDES IN EARTHWORKS SLOPES, THE AUTHOR CONSIDERS GENERAL STUDY METHODS AND STRESSES THE NEED FOR TAKING THE STABILITY FACTOR INTO ACCOUNT IN ALIGNMENT STUDIES. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF CALCULATION METHODS AND USE OF COMPUTERS. THE SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM BEHAVIOR OF SLOPES IS EXAMINED, AND THE MECHANICAL AND HYDRAULIC SOIL PARAMETERS ARE OUTLINED. EACH MAIN TYPE OF LANDSLIDE IS DESCRIBED AND ITS CALCULATION METHOD GIVEN. MEANS OF IMPROVING STABILITY ARE RECALLED WITH EMPHASIS ON DRAINAGE. A STUDY IS MADE OF EMBANKMENTS ON COMPRESSIBLE SOIL, CUTTING TRENCHES IN CLAYEY SOIL, AND EMBANKMENTS ON MOUNTAIN SIDES. /TRRL/
