High-Speed Rail in Europe and Asia: Lessons for the United States
This document analyzes high-speed rail (HSR) networks in various countries in Europe and Asia to determine if HSR is an economically feasible option for the United States. Factors such as car ownership, gas prices, travel patterns, existing transit infrastructure, and population density are examined. A fiscal analysis of HSR networks includes tables of: capital costs, operating costs, maintenance costs, planning costs, and ticket prices.
