ANALYSIS OF ELASTIC WAVE AMPLITUDE FOR DETECTING VARIATIONS IN STRESSES IN FISSURED MEDIA

EXPERIMENTAL TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT TO EVALUATE THE SENSITIVITY AND ACCURACY OF ELASTIC WAVE AMPLITUDE MEASUREMENTS IN A ROCK MASS. A LABORATORY STUDY SHOWED THE HIGH SENSITIVITY OF THE METHOD APPLIED TO THE NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING OF A CONCRETE BLOCK SUBJECTED TO ULTIMATE TENSILE STRESSES. AMPLITUDE DEVIATIONS WERE OF THE ORDER OF 60 PER CENT. THE SAME EQUIPMENT WAS USED TO DETECT SEISMIC SIGNALS DURING A FLAT JACK TEST ON THE WALL OF A GALLERY. VARIATIONS IN AMPLITUDE IN THE SECOND CASE WERE 30 PER CENT. /TRRL/
