Laser Scanning for Crash Reconstruction

This paper describes how one of the tools used today for accident reconstruction is the 3D laser scanner. Although these laser scanners were originally developed for surveying, they do very well in documenting crash scenes and the environment around them. The paper discusses how law enforcement personnel have a distinct advantage when using scanners at crash sites. They are able to close the entire area to control traffic while measuring the crash scene. Because of the fact that this technology is accepted by the courts makes it a preferred technique for accident reconstruction.
