STRENGTH OF FOUNDATIONS SUBJECTED TO PULLING OUT STRESSES: TWO-DIMENSIONAL MODEL

THIS STUDY IS CONCERNED WITH MODEL TESTS AND PRESENTS THEORETICAL SOLUTIONS WHICH ARE COMPARED WITH THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS. THE TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT IN THE TAYLOR-SCHNEEBELI MECHANICAL ANALOGY APPARATUS WITH THE USE OF ROLLERS AND SAND TO REPRESENT THE MEDIA STUDIED. THE AIM OF THE TESTS WAS TO STUDY THE BEHAVIOR OF ANCHORAGE PLATES, SINGLE OR IN GROUPS, SUBJECTED TO PULLING OUT FORCES. DURING THE TESTS ON SAND, AN ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO MEASURE THE SAND/WALL FRICTION WHICH WAS EVALUATED AS BEING 30 PER CENT OF THE EFFORT APPLIED. /TRRL/
