Leveraging Investigative Partnerships: Joint efforts foster a safer maritime domain
One of the primary responsibilities of the U.S. Coast Guard is the safety of marine transportation. As such, it plays a large part in the investigation of marine casualties. In order to help with marine casualty investigations, it has enlisted the aid of the National Transportation Safety Board. This partnership proves to be very beneficial. Together, these two agencies cover all of the necessary roles and responsibilities necessary for enhancing marine safety. This article describes the focus of investigations, agency responsibilities and roles, critical resources, international impact, differences in procedures between the two agencies, and overall goals.
