The Parking Manager Is In
In this article, the author discusses the parking program in Eugene, Oregon, in which a classic lemonade stand was set up downtown to inform the community about proposed parking rate changes and to stimulate conversation. The idea for the stand, which featured the city's parking manager fielding questions about the upcoming changes, evolved as a result of a low response to the traditional solicitations for customer feedback. The lemonade stand was also used to conduct speed interviews for the hiring of parking enforcement officers and to distribute coffee and doughnuts to construction workers involved in downtown redevelopment. This creative approach to engaging the community has continually received positive feedback from community members.
