Momentum Traffic Management – Active Traffic Control; Congestion - Road Damager - Energy

The Momentum Traffic Management concept is based on momentum information in traffic. Momentum is the product of mass and speed of an object and that information is measured by one of the cornerstones of the management system, the sensors which gather information in traffic. The new road measurement system, the “Momentum Quantifier”, which is a sensor installed in the road, enables real-time decision-making at management level and gets support from the new characterisation model for vehicles in traffic. With the information of each tire the Momentum Quantifier produces, autonomous systems can be created to detect and warn possibly dangerous vehicles in traffic. Congestion management can be supported by the accurate information on individual vehicle behavior in traffic, e.g. acceleration curve, mass distribution of cargo and vehicle, speed etc. Regulations based on mass and speed, i.e. momentum, create a safer traffic compared to regulations solely based on speed. High momentum is dangerous, speed might or might not be.
