20th Annual Report on the Performance of State Highway Systems (1984-2009/10)
This report uses eleven economic and performance indicators to rate the performance of highways in the United States from 1984-2009. The highways rated are state owned, and some more recent information is also displayed for the years 2010 and 2011. The more recent information includes data on federal stimulus funds, travel, bridges, economic trends, and fatalities. The general information includes data on urban interstate traffic congestion, narrow rural traffic lanes, highway expenditures, bridge condition, primary road and interstate highway pavement condition, and fatality rates. The data used throughout the study was founded on performance and expenditure information collected by the federal government from state highway agencies. It was concluded that the system has improved over time and that, in fact, the overall condition of the state highway system was in the best shape ever seen, in 2009.
