PROTECTION OF A COHESIVE SOIL FORMATION BY MEANS OF A TAR- BASED SEALANT

THE AUTHOR POINTS OUT THE TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC ADVANTAGES OF PROTECTING A COHESIVE ROAD FORMATION WITH A BITUMINOUS SEAL TO PREVENT DAMAGE CAUSED BY WEATHERING. IT IS STRESSED THAT VEHICLES TRAVELLING OVER THE CONSTRUCTION SITE SHOULD NOT MOVE FAST, AND SHOULD NOT BE ACCELERATED, BRAKED OR TURNED SHARPLY, AS THE SEALANT CANNOT COPE WITH THE STRESSES INDUCED BY THESE MANEUVERS. /TRRL/
