Dressed as a tunnel
The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) runway construction project features big, complex and routine tasks, as detailed in this article. It calls for an elevated 8,000-ft-long air strip alongside a parallel taxiway, requiring 6 million cubic yards of embankment material, 323,000 square feet of mechanically stabilized earth walls, over 2000 concrete piles, and 857 prestressed I-beams.
