THE EFFECT OF POSITION OF MEASUREMENT OF CRACK OPENING DISPLACEMENT
The report emphasises the need for an experimental method of obtaining the crack tip C.O.D. from measurements made remote from the crack tip location. In particular, a method is described whereby clip gauge displacements can be converted to the crack tip C.O.D. from a prior knowledge of the displacement magnification and rotational effects for specimens of different notch depths. The effects of crack extension and the influence of triaxial stresses are also discussed.
