Numerical optimisation of the charge/discharge characteristics of wayside energy storage systems by the embedded simulation technique using the railway power network simulator RTSS
The authors describe their trials to utilize an embedded simulation procedure to optimize the charge/discharge characteristics of an energy storage system. Energy storage systems use batteries for storage media. They can be supplied to electric railroads for the purpose of reducing their energy consumption. They can be installed in the railroad power supply network to charge electrical energy where there is a surplus of network regenerated power. Though a number of energy storage systems are underway in Japan, it is unclear what effect their charge/discharge properties will have. This can be evaluated with a multi-train power network simulation program.
